Andreasian Announces Timeline for Construction of Academic City
The construction of the Academic City in Armenia is set to begin in phases starting from 2025. This was stated by Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport Zhanna Andreasian during a question-and-answer session with the government in the National Assembly, in response to a question from Civil Contract faction member Hasmik Hakobyan.
"This is a very large-scale project, and its implementation will take considerable time. We are currently in the phase of developing the master plan, which is expected to be finalized by June," said the minister.
On April 11, a visit from architects of the German company GMP is scheduled to review the work that has already been done.
"On Friday, we plan to present the prepared and developed version of the project to a wider audience in the hall of the Matenadaran. Representatives from the scientific and university communities are invited," Andreasian added.
In response to the question about whether current school students will have the opportunity to study in the Academic City, the minister confidently answered positively. "We plan to start the design work for the main structures this year in a phased manner. The actual construction work is also planned to begin in phases from 2025. We believe that within this framework, we will have our first students here by 2030. The first phase involves students from art, technology, educational, and military universities," noted the minister.
Detailed discussions and presentations are planned at all universities in the near future, including engaging with school students. The Academic City is primarily aimed at involving state universities, with discussions targeting up to 8 state institutions. However, according to the minister, the area is quite large, and the concept includes the possibility of relocating up to 8 private and intergovernmental universities as well. There is already interest from various universities.
