Unsanitary and Foul Conditions in Nor-Nork's 7th District: 'Veolia Water' Fails to Respond
According to Shamshyan.com, residents of multi-apartment buildings on Hunan Avetisyan Street in the 7th district of Yerevan's Nor-Nork administrative area have been making numerous phone calls for several days, justifiably voicing their concerns that wastewater from a manhole installed on the main street has been spilling out for a long time, flowing several kilometers and polluting the entire area.
On April 7, residents mentioned in a conversation with the source that the situation has been deteriorating for over a month: "The wastewater is spilling out and flowing for about 2-3 kilometers, creating a very unpleasant stench. During the tenure of former Mayor Taron Margaryan, this area was greened with benches and conversation spaces installed, but now you can see that this wastewater has contaminated all those areas. Not to mention the fact that just a few meters away, there are multi-story buildings and playgrounds for children. We have called the hotlines of the Yerevan City Hall and 'Veolia Water', as well as the staff of our administrative district's leadership, multiple times, but we have not received any positive response.
During one of the council meetings, we heard how Mayor Tigran Avinyan had given instructions for the accountable parties to respond to residents' complaints. The hotline is supposed to register our grievances and forward them to relevant agencies around the clock, but as we understand it, Tigran Avinyan speaks, while it seems that cotton has been stuffed into the ears of the responsible parties. There is no talk about 'Veolia Water.' It's as if they're just sucking our blood like a tick.
We make our payments regularly, but when we reach out, they either respond that 'this is not within our jurisdiction' or say, 'your application has been registered; we will come soon,' but it has been a month, and they have not come. They seem to have turned into Noah's raven, and now we don’t know what to do or whom to turn to. The entire area is rife with a foul odor, and there is a danger that it could turn into an outbreak if the relevant authorities do not resolve the issue in the near future."
The source reports that Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan's press secretary, Hayk Kostanyan, has already been informed about the issue, who has briefed the relevant officials on the situation. Let's see if these officials will respond promptly this time to the mayor's press officer.
