Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan Halts Service for Mir Cards

The largest bank in Kazakhstan, Halyk Bank, has officially ceased servicing Mir cards as of February 27. The service has been discontinued for both ATMs and POS terminals.

According to the bank's call center, "The last change was on February 27, Mir cards are no longer serviced," TASS reported.

Halyk Bank had previously limited the servicing of Russian Mir cards in the spring of 2022. This allowed payments to be made through POS terminals, but without cash withdrawal options. In December 2022, payments were suspended.

Currently, servicing of Mir cards in Kazakhstan is handled through a subsidiary of the Russian VTB bank. The card can only be opened in the national currency, the tenge.

Today, it was announced that servicing of Mir cards will be suspended in Kyrgyzstan in the coming days. On March 30, Armenian banks participating in the ArCa payment system also halted servicing for Mir cards.
