Comment from the Ministry of Internal Affairs on Video of Police Beating a Citizen

The coordinator of the NGO "Union of Informed Citizens", Daniel Ioannisyan, has published a video on his Facebook page which, according to his information, shows police using violence against a citizen.

He also wrote: "Officers of the Central Division of the Yerevan Police were beating, injuring, and humiliating the citizen Vahe Navoyan near Arin Berd Street on March 14 in an attempt to extract information. Armenian law enforcement agencies do not talk about police violence; the responsibility for uncovering such cases falls entirely on citizens."

In this regard, the spokesperson for the Minister of Internal Affairs, Narek Sargsyan, informed the media: "The video has been studied. An internal investigation has been initiated in the Ministry of Internal Affairs' internal security and anti-corruption department."
