Damage Reported to Thermal Power Plants in Ukraine
Thermal and hydroelectric power plants have been damaged in central and western Ukraine following explosions. This was reported by the Ukrainian National Energy Company "Ukrenergo" on their Telegram channel.
"During the combined attack, energy facilities were once again targeted. Thermal and hydroelectric power plants in the central and western regions have been damaged," the statement reads.
Air alerts were declared in Ukraine overnight. Ukrainian media reported explosions in the Dnipropetrovsk, Khmelnytskyi, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Cherkasy regions. Ukraine's Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko announced a new massive attack, stating that generation facilities were hit.
In an interview with RIA Novosti, Alexander Losev, a member of the Presidential Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, stated, "Attacks on energy facilities aim to deprive the Kyiv regime of the opportunity to conduct a war against Russia; therefore, strikes on infrastructure should continue." He noted that one of the objectives of the attacks is to deprive the adversary of the capacity to resist. For this purpose, issues must arise in electricity, communication, television and internet, and fuel supply within the opponent's territory.
