Strategic Security Issues Will Arise in Tavush: Tatoyan

The situation in Tavush is the result of major mistakes. Strengthening Azerbaijani positions at the expense of the safety of our own people is unacceptable. This was stated by former Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan.

"I constantly emphasize that the demarcation of boundaries is primarily related to human beings, is for the sake of human security, and people receive it through the rights guaranteed by the state – from a dignified and safe life to access to drinking water and the right to property and free movement.

Strategic security issues will arise in Tavush, and people will be deprived of the opportunity to move safely, cultivate lands, and earn income for their families. Strategic facilities (gas pipelines, water resources, etc.) will fall under Azerbaijani target or control.

I illustrate this with the example of the village of Nerkhin Hand in the Kapan community of Syunik, showing what is to be expected in Tavush. What is happening has absolutely nothing to do with 'demarcation' or 'bordering'."
