Young Man Who Stabbed Ex-Wife and Her Sister Found

The investigation conducted by the Shirak regional investigative department of the RA Investigative Committee has clarified the circumstances surrounding the apparent attempted murder of a former wife and her sister by a resident of Gyumri.

The Investigative Committee reported that on March 24, 2024, at 14:48, a report was received from a resident of Gyumri stating that her ex-husband had stabbed her and her 26-year-old sister in the entrance of their building. Later, the ‘Gyumri’ hospital informed that the mentioned individuals had been admitted with stab wounds in various parts of their bodies.

The investigation initiated into the incident confirmed that a 27-year-old young man had committed the apparent stabbing. It was also discovered that prior to the incident, he had regularly threatened the former wife and her relatives with murder, bodily harm, and destruction of significant property.

In particular, it was revealed that there had been tense and hostile relations regarding personal matters between the 27-year-old young man and his former wife. As a result, he had been continually threatening them until the day of the incident, and on March 24, 2024, at around 14:45, intending to take their lives, he went to their residence address and waited in the courtyard of the building.

Noticing the approaching 32 and 27-year-old sisters, the young man, under the influence of alcohol, followed them and, wielding a knife, while making threats, attacked his former wife from behind, stabbing different parts of her back, heart, and right leg, before also striking her sister, causing varying degrees of bodily harm to both women. However, due to the intervention of another person, he could not complete the crime and fled the scene.

Based on sufficient factual data obtained, public criminal prosecution was initiated against him under Article 194, part 1, and Article 194, part 2, point 4 (2 episodes), and Article 44-155, part 1, and part 2, point 9 of the RA Criminal Code. The investigative authority instructed the police to locate and present him. On March 27, he was found and presented to the investigative authority. Charges have been filed against him for the aforementioned criminal actions. A motion has been submitted to the court to apply detention as a measure of restraint.
