Azerbaijan Withdraws from Participation in the Sambo World Cup in Yerevan

The Azerbaijani national team will not participate in the Sambo World Cup, which is set to take place in Yerevan. This was announced by Yagub Abdullayev, the official representative of the Azerbaijani Sambo Federation, to local media.

According to him, the main reason for the withdrawal is the tension between the two countries. “Everyone knows how our athletes have been treated in previous competitions in Armenia. This negatively affects our athletes' motivation, as well as heightens security concerns. Therefore, our federation has decided not to participate in the World Cup that will be held in Yerevan,” he stated.

It is noteworthy that the World Cup will be held for the first time in Yerevan on April 4-5, and it will become a regular event. Mikhail Hayrapetyan, the president of the Armenian Sambo Federation, shared this information in an interview with journalists. “The World Cup in Yerevan will be a regular annual event. The international federation has entrusted us with hosting the cup every year. The attention of the international body towards Armenia is high, and the results we have achieved are also at a high level. We are confident that our sambists will achieve great results on the international stage,” Hayrapetyan said.
