How Drugs Penetrate Prisons

During a meeting of the National Assembly's Legal and Judicial Committee, Justice Minister Grigor Minasian addressed the question posed by MP Andranik Kocharyan regarding the presence of equipment but ongoing drug infiltration into prisons.

“How do drugs penetrate prisons? You are correct that there are scanners, but the scanners are only placed in the delivery section. There, both the staff and the food items, which are not prepared on-site but are brought in, enter without scanning,” he stated.

Minasian informed that they have already received the Prime Minister's approval, according to which a purchase will take place in the coming month or two, based on a proposal from a Chinese company with standardized equipment.

“In the Armavir prison, a system will be created that will monitor food, deliveries, and personnel; thus, no one will be able to enter Armavir prison with food without this scanning. Today we do not have that system, so it is incorrect to identify whether drugs have been brought in through unscrupulous or corrupt officials. Nowadays, drugs can also be delivered by drones,” the minister added. He noted that they are attempting to solve this issue through digitization.
