In Armenia, a new system equipped with electronic photo and video recording cameras is set to be implemented. This was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Vahe Ghazaryan, during a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Defense and Security, addressing the issue of traffic accidents.

“We currently have an interesting program; we are preparing to implement an electronic photo and video recording system and are conducting extensive work. We have announced a tender. If everything goes smoothly, we will install new and modern cameras on all main highways that will display speed in km/h, compelling drivers to reduce their speed. We have studied the experiences of many countries, and this system is already implemented in many European countries,” he said.

According to him, they also plan to update the cameras installed at intersections in Yerevan, and additional cameras will be installed at the city’s entrances and exits.

The minister emphasized that there has been positive dynamics regarding traffic accidents on Armenian roads in 2024 compared to the same time period in 2023. Traffic accidents have decreased by 54, fatal accidents by 6, and the number of injured has decreased by 110. This figure is quite good over the past 10 years.

According to Ghazaryan, many accidents occur due to poor road conditions, as people tend to speed.
