It Led to Internal Confrontation—Very Severe Civil War: Putin

The internal conflict that led to the events in Yugoslavia in 1999 was fueled both internally and externally. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin during an interview with TASS's General Director while preparing the documentary film 'Belgrade' on March 24, broadcasted on the 'Russia-1' TV channel.

“I will not comment on who is to blame, who pursued what goals, but this was ignited both from within and from outside,” he said.

Putin emphasized that it resulted in “internal confrontation—a very severe civil war.” The Russian president also stated that there is no point in discussing the possible fate of Yugoslavia under another government in Russia in 1999. Previously, it was reported that a meeting of the UN Security Council, requested by the Russian Federation, will take place on March 25, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of NATO's bombings in Yugoslavia.
