Azerbaijani Citizen Planned Terrorist Attacks: Details
Azerbaijan's special services have arrested a man on suspicion of preparing terrorist attacks. The 43-year-old Bahruse Askerov had reportedly planned to carry out terrorist acts with others.
According to APA, the investigation conducted by Azerbaijan's State Security Service raised substantial suspicions that Askerov, a citizen of Azerbaijan born in 1988 and residing in Murmansk, Russia, conspired with others to plan terrorist activities.
It has been revealed that Askerov, while maintaining secret contacts with individuals living in various regions of Azerbaijan, instructed them to organize an assassination attempt against the head of the Executive Power of Lankaran. It has also been discovered that he ordered these individuals to carry out an assassination attempt on a foreign citizen teaching English in some regions of the republic.
A criminal case has been initiated under the article of preparing a terrorist act, and pre-trial detention has been chosen as a measure of restraint against him. The investigation has also clarified that the suspect had planned to organize military exercises on the territory of a foreign state; however, as a result of the measures taken by the State Security Service, the criminal activities were not carried out. Investigative and operational measures are ongoing to clarify all circumstances of the criminal case.
