Julya

On March 22, 2024, at around 18:05, vehicles including 'BMW', 'Ford', 'Volkswagen', and 'Skoda' collided on the 15th km of the Yerevan-Sevan M-4 highway. This was reported by Gor Abrahamyan, the press secretary of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, on his Facebook page, alongside a video of the incident.

As a result of the accident, the driver of the 'Skoda' and four passengers were taken to 'Abovyan' Medical Center, while the driver of the 'BMW' and two passengers died at the scene.

On the same day, the Kotayk Regional Investigative Department initiated a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 342 of the RA Criminal Code. An examination of the accident scene and the vehicles involved has been conducted, and the damaged vehicles have been moved to a secure area. The sobriety of the drivers was checked, and all were found to be sober. Forensic examinations have been appointed, and several individuals have been interrogated.

At this stage of the preliminary investigation, it has been established that around 18:05, a 'BMW' vehicle from the opposite direction, traveling on the Sevan-Yerevan lane under still unclear circumstances, crossed into the opposing lane and collided first with the 'Skoda', then with a 'Ford' vehicle transporting passengers from Yerevan to Hrazdan, which at the time was carrying 16 passengers, and then with a 'Volkswagen', resulting in a tragic accident.

The investigation is ongoing. Efforts are being made to clarify the circumstances under which the 'BMW' exited into the opposing lane and other aspects of the incident. The condition of the individuals who were injured and taken to the medical center is satisfactory, and all have been discharged from the hospital. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the 16 passengers of the 'Ford' vehicle.
