Police Official Involved in Fatal Accident with Elderly Woman: Investigative Committee Responds
Recently, an accident occurred on Paronyan Street involving the head of the police automotive department, Vardan Avagyan, resulting in the death of a woman. This information was shared by Daniel Ioannisyan, coordinator of programs at the civic organization 'Informed Citizens' on Facebook.
“The head of the police automotive department, a friend of Minister Vahe Ghazaryan (and a student of Hovik Abrahamyan), Vardan Avagyan, last night on Paronyan Street, allegedly hit a woman around 60 years old fatally. According to the information I have received, the accident was caused while he was drunk, using an official vehicle with operational license plates,” Ioannisyan wrote.
The spokesperson for the Investigative Committee, Gor Abrahamyan, stated in a conversation with Factor.am that criminal proceedings have been initiated based on Article 342, Part 1 of the Criminal Code (violation of traffic rules resulting in death due to negligence). The person voluntarily reported to law enforcement and disclosed details about the accident. Charges have been filed against him, and a preventive measure has been selected, prohibiting him from leaving the country. Abrahamyan also noted that no complaint has been filed in connection with the case. He further stated that they do not have information regarding the defendant's level of intoxication.
