My message to Yerevan and Baku is the same: Both sides must see this opportunity and reach an agreement, Stoltenberg
I am deeply convinced that achieving peace is possible, which means yes, it is realistic, as agreement has already been reached on some fundamental principles within the framework of the ongoing negotiations. Among these is, for example, respect for each other's territorial integrity.
This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg during an interview with public television when asked whether he considers the prospect of peace realistic.
“However, I want to note that NATO is not a mediator, meaning it cannot bring proposals to the negotiating table, but we support these principles and also believe that it is possible to overcome and resolve existing disagreements.
I can also talk about the example of my country, Norway. We are part of the Scandinavian region, where there has been a struggle between Norwegians, Swedes, and Danes for centuries. Now we live in peace. Of course, there are also border-related issues that will never be completely agreed upon, but that is in the past; we all respect each other as independent sovereign states.
The same can be seen in the case of other European countries: France, Germany, the United Kingdom, which have been at war for hundreds of years, but today those countries live in stable peace,” the NATO Secretary General noted.
He emphasized that his message to Yerevan is the same as to Baku: “Both sides must see this opportunity, overcome contradictions, and reach an agreement for lasting peace.”
