Investigations Underway into Car Accident in Syunik Claiming Four Lives, Including Eleven-Year-Old Child
The circumstances surrounding a car accident in the Syunik region that claimed the lives of four individuals are currently under investigation within the framework of a criminal case. This was reported by the spokesperson for the Investigative Committee, Gor Abrahamyan.
According to the police, at approximately 05:40 AM on March 19, 2024, two vehicles collided on the 207th kilometer section of the Yerevan-Meghri highway. One vehicle, a "VAZ 21063," was driven by a 38-year-old resident of Vayots Dzor province, while the other, an "Opel Astra 1.6," was driven by a 39-year-old resident of Syunik province.
As a result of the collision, the "VAZ 21063" caught fire, inflicting serious injuries on its driver who was subsequently transported to the Sisian Medical Center. Tragically, four passengers in the vehicle—his 35-year-old wife, their 11-year-old son, his wife's 68-year-old uncle, and the uncle's 67-year-old wife—succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
In light of this tragic incident, a criminal case has been initiated in the Sisian investigative department of the Syunik regional investigative directorate under the third part of Article 342 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. Investigations have taken place at the accident site, involving the vehicles and the deceased, with forensic medical examinations scheduled. The police have been instructed to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
The preliminary investigation under this criminal case is ongoing, and efforts are being made to understand the causes of the accident and the vehicle fire alongside other related circumstances. The health condition of the injured driver is reported as stable.
