Man Who Attempted Murder of Three Individuals in Goris Arrested
The investigative department of the Syunik region, under the Armenian Investigative Committee, continues the pre-trial investigation regarding the attempted murder of three individuals that occurred in Goris on February 2, 2024.
As previously reported, on that day, during an argument outside the Goris Cardiology Hospital, a 38-year-old local resident allegedly attempted to kill a 40-year-old man from the same city and his two brothers due to previously existing disagreements, firing shots at them.
Specifically, it has been established that the 38-year-old acquired an AK-74 assault rifle, an illegally manufactured Makarov pistol, and a minimum of 35 rounds of various calibers illegally under circumstances that are yet to be clarified in the investigation. On February 2, 2024, he transported these weapons in his car to the intersection of Yerevanyan Highway and Peace Street in Goris, where around 12:30 PM, in a manner that endangered many lives, he fired at least four shots towards the UAZ vehicle driven by the brother of the 40-year-old man.
After damaging the vehicle, the man fired additional shots at the brothers, who had exited the car, resulting in one of them suffering a gunshot wound to the thigh. However, the execution of the crime did not occur due to circumstances beyond the control of the 38-year-old, as the Makarov pistol ran out of ammunition, and he was unable to use the AK-74 assault rifle illegally kept in the vehicle because it was seized from him, after which he attempted to flee.
A public criminal prosecution was initiated against him, and he was declared wanted. As a result of investigative, procedural, and operational-intelligence measures, he was located and presented to the prosecuting authority on March 14, 2024. The 38-year-old resident of Goris has been charged under points 7 of part 2 of Article 155 and part 1 of Article 335 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. A motion has been submitted to the court to reaffirm the arrest of the individual, which has been granted, and he has been detained. Measures are also being taken to determine the source of the illegal acquisition of the weapon used by the 38-year-old and other circumstances.
