G2 Category Geomagnetic Storm Expected Soon: Levon Azizyan
According to forecasts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a G2 category geomagnetic storm is expected from March 20-22. This information was shared by Levon Azizyan, the director of the Hydro-Meteorological and Monitoring Center, on his Facebook page.
“Let’s remind that magnetic storms are divided into five categories: G1 'minor', G2 'moderate', G3 'strong', G4 'very strong', and G5 'extreme'. On March 17, at 02:05 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), astronomers from NASA’s Applied Physics Institute recorded an eruption on the Sun, categorized as an M3 in the X-ray range from solar spot AR3607. The eruption was accompanied by a plasma ejection traveling at speeds of 500-700 km/s,” he wrote.
