Latvia's State Security Service Launches Criminal Case Against European Parliament Deputy Tatjana Ždanoka

The State Security Service of Latvia has initiated a criminal case against a Member of the European Parliament and a citizen of the Baltic state, who is suspected of collaborating with Russian intelligence and security services, Latvian media reports.

It is noted that the security service has been investigating the activities of 73-year-old Ždanoka and her alleged ties to Russia over the past few weeks, following reports in January from Russian, Scandinavian, and Baltic news websites indicating that she has been a Russian FSB agent since at least 2004.

According to the LETA news agency, the Latvian security service decided to open a criminal case against Ždanoka on February 22. Ždanoka has denied all allegations against her.
