Our Participation in the CSTO is Frozen Until We Receive Answers to Our Questions: Mirzoyan
Armenia has partially frozen its participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), pending answers to questions raised by the Armenian side. This was stated today by Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during a session of the National Assembly's Foreign Relations Committee.
According to him, it is still unclear to Armenia how its CSTO partners envision their sphere of responsibility in the South Caucasus. “You know, this is a treaty and an organization in which member states are obliged to provide mutual assistance and protect each other’s territorial integrity. Unfortunately, at the time when the sovereign territories of the Republic of Armenia were subjected to attack and occupation, and when internationally recognized borders of Armenia were violated, we did not see that our CSTO partners had the perception of the facts and the formulation that I just presented—violation of borders and occupation of sovereign territories,” Mirzoyan said.
He emphasized that this situation raises questions for the Armenian side, for which answers are expected.
