Who Will Replace Gevorg Papoyan: The Ruling Party to Hold Meeting Today

The newspaper "Hraparak" reports: "According to our information, the "Civil Contract" faction will discuss today in a closed session the issue of nominating a candidate for the vacant position of chairman of the National Assembly's Financial and Budget Committee. It is notable that this committee was previously chaired by Gevorg Papoyan, who was appointed as the Minister of Economy last week.

Several names are being circulated for the position of the committee chairman: Babken Tunyan, who heads the Economic Permanent Committee; Hovik Aghazaryan, the deputy of B. Tunyan; Arusyak Manavazyan, who is known to be Prime Minister Pashinyan's eyes and ears in the parliament; and Economic Committee member Tsovinar Vardanyan, who is the daughter of Jokoy. According to our sources, the majority is in favor of Tsovinar's candidacy.

It's worth mentioning that this committee also has no vice-chairman; two years ago, during the united boycott of the opposition, Arthur Khachatryan from the Armenian Revolutionary Federation resigned from the vice-chairman position. The law on the "Regulation of the National Assembly" states that in the absence of the permanent committee chairman or when the position is vacant, he is replaced by the deputy, and in their impossibility, by a member designated by the committee itself. The faction will choose a candidate and then present it for the committee's election."
