33 Arrested in Turkey Ahead of Elections
In Turkey's western Sakarya province, law enforcement has arrested more than 30 suspects on charges of preparing terrorist activities ahead of the local elections scheduled for March 31. This was announced today by Turkey's Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya. The information was reported by RIA Novosti.
"During an operation against the Islamic State terrorist group in Sakarya province, 33 suspects linked to the Islamic State were arrested. It has been confirmed that among those arrested are individuals who were preparing terrorist acts before the elections, sending militants to conflict zones, providing financial assistance to terrorists, and managing illegal mosques and madrasas," the minister wrote on social media.
During the searches, weapons, ammunition, banned literature, and a large amount of foreign currency were seized, Yerlikaya noted.
