Peskov on Possible Contact Between Pashinyan and Putin
There are currently no plans for communications between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, according to Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian President.
“At the moment, there are no scheduled high-level communications; however, they can certainly take place if necessary. Phone calls can be organized quite quickly,” Peskov stated.
Armenian officials have increasingly made anti-Russian statements, accusing Moscow of failing to fulfill its alliance obligations. Earlier, in the National Assembly of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan stated that the CSTO had not only failed to meet its obligations to Armenia but also posed a threat to the country’s national security.
He added that Armenia has effectively frozen its participation in the organization, but if the situation does not change, it will be legally frozen as well. Following this, Alen Simonyan declared that Russia aimed to “tighten the noose around the two countries—Armenia and Azerbaijan”—and had made agreements with Turkey regarding the prevailing situation in the region. He also mentioned that Armenia is ready to become a candidate for EU membership.
