Western Special Forces Deployed in Ukraine, Claims FT
A senior European security official, commenting on French President Emmanuel Macron's remarks about sending troops to Ukraine, has told the Financial Times that "Western special forces are already there." This was reported by RTVI.
“Everyone knows that there are Western special forces in Ukraine; they just don’t officially acknowledge it,” the source explained to the newspaper.
At the same time, a NATO representative told FT that the alliance does not plan to deploy troops on Ukrainian territory. “Ukraine has the right to self-defense, and we support them,” he said.
On February 26, President Macron did not rule out the possibility of sending troops from Western countries to Ukraine following a conference in Paris aimed at supporting Kyiv. However, he stated that a consensus on this matter has not yet been reached.
Russia's presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov later warned that NATO forces' presence in Ukraine would turn the conflict between Russia and NATO from unlikely to inevitable. “This is how we interpret the French president's statements regarding the possible dispatch of alliance troops to Ukraine,” said the Kremlin representative during a press briefing.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, in turn, noted that allies have provided unprecedented support to Ukraine since 2014, but there are no plans to station NATO combat troops there.
