Under What Conditions Will Senior Military Officials Receive 1,075,000 Drams?

Senior military officials will receive 1,075,000 drams if they pass their assessments with excellence. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Defense, Karen Brutyan, during a presentation of the package of amendments to the laws on 'Military Service and the Status of Military Personnel' and 'Remuneration of Persons Holding State Positions and State Service Positions' in the National Assembly of Armenia.

The package of legislative amendments is expected to be discussed within 24 hours. Brutyan indicated that remuneration in the Armed Forces of Armenia is not yet based on a unified policy. The current objective of the Armenian government is to implement an appropriate remuneration system, with principles that the amount of remuneration, the structure of the system, and the positions should be aligned with the specific nature and purpose of the military and its functions.

Brutyan stated: “Everyone in the Armed Forces of Armenia should be engaged in their specific tasks, and the results of each individual's service should be measurable. Service members must receive fair compensation. Therefore, positions must be reviewed, distinguishing between military and non-military personnel. Non-military positions include civil servants and workers. They should receive competitive salaries that are above the average in the private sector to attract the high-quality workforce available in the country to the Armed Forces of Armenia.”

Military positions are divided based on combat functions, operational planning, and control with direct and indirect involvement. According to the Deputy Minister, in this case, remuneration is contingent on the qualifications and risks faced by military personnel.

“In other words, the greater the risk associated with the service and the level of qualification, the higher the remuneration. Moreover, the required qualifications must be periodically reaffirmed through assessment. Compensation linked to risk should be paid through bonuses, the system of which is currently being reviewed by the government. This also serves as motivation for transitioning from non-combat to combat roles,” he emphasized.

Accordingly, the salary of a brigade sergeant before assessment will range between 209,000 and 218,000 drams, and in special conditions, this amount increases by approximately 82,000 drams. The Deputy Minister of Defense informed that: “If a brigade sergeant receives a satisfactory assessment, their salary will amount to 418,505 drams; with a good assessment, it will be 530,505 drams; and with an excellent assessment, 570,505 drams. Contract soldiers in the rank of private will receive about 110,000 drams without assessment, and after assessment, with a satisfactory rating, they will receive 262,000 drams; with a good rating, 489,000 drams; and with an excellent rating, 526,000 drams. In conditions of special service, the salaries of private military personnel will increase by 115,000 drams, and for a satisfactory assessment, it will total 377,000 drams.”

Regarding the senior officer corps, with a satisfactory assessment, it is expected to reach 890,000 drams; with a good assessment, 1,035,000 drams; and with an excellent assessment, 1,075,000 drams.
