Israel and Hezbollah Exchange Strikes

The Lebanese Shia movement Hezbollah has announced that it struck 12 positions of the Israeli army in the past day. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have reported retaliatory strikes toward Lebanon.

According to Hezbollah's statement, on February 22, its fighters targeted nine positions in the eastern direction and three in the western direction. The movement emphasized that missiles were used in the attacks on Israeli military positions.

The IDF's press service reported that on the evening of February 22, it carried out counterstrikes in response to rocket and mortar attacks from Lebanon into Israeli territory.

“In recent hours, numerous launches have been recorded toward the Zar'it and Metula areas in northern Israel. IDF soldiers have targeted the areas from which fire was being opened,” the statement said.

The agency added that “during the day, IDF artillery opened fire in various areas of southern Lebanon to eliminate threats.”

The situation on the Israel-Lebanon border has escalated since the start of Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip in October 2023, which were preceded by an incursion by Hamas militants into Israel.
