Henrikh Mkhitaryan Sets Record in European Competitions

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has become the player with the most appearances in European competitions from the CIS countries. The 35-year-old Mkhitaryan participated in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 against Atletico Madrid (1-0), marking his 144th appearance in European competitions.

The Armenian midfielder surpassed former Dynamo Kyiv and Ukraine national team goalkeeper Oleksandr Shovkovskyi (143) and climbed to first place. Rounding out the top three is former CSKA Moscow and Russia national team defender Sergei Ignashevich (143). Ukrainian football legend and former AC Milan striker Andriy Shevchenko sits in fourth place (142). Completing the top five is former Ukrainian national team, Bayern Munich, and Russian Zenit midfielder Anatoliy Tymoshchuk (137).

In his 144 matches in European competitions, Mkhitaryan has scored 26 goals and provided 24 assists.
