Georgian Mercenary Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Killing Russian Soldier in Mariupol
A Georgian mercenary, Mamuka Gatsareli, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of three Russian soldiers in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). This was reported by the press service of Russia's Prosecutor General's Office.
The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic has issued a verdict in the criminal case against the 22-year-old sniper of the Ukrainian armed forces. Mamuka Gatsareli was found guilty under Article 317 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (assault on a serviceman's life with the intent to obstruct the legal activities of that person for the purpose of ensuring public safety) and part 3 of Article 359 (participation of a mercenary in armed conflict).
Gatsareli arrived in Ukraine in March 2022, where he signed a contract with the Ukrainian Armed Forces before heading to Mariupol. The mercenary opened fire on four Russian soldiers, three of whom were killed, while one survived. Gatsareli will serve his sentence in a high-security penal colony, as clarified by the prosecutor's office.
