At Least 600,000 Children in Rafah Living in Tent Camps Without Access to Food and Medicine
At least 600,000 children are currently living in tent camps in the Palestinian city of Rafah, located in the southern Gaza Strip, without easy access to food and medicine. This statement was made by Al Jazeera, citing an anonymous representative from UNICEF (the United Nations Children’s Fund).
“600,000 children are now living in Rafah camps without food and medicine and in extremely dangerous conditions,” the broadcaster quoted the representative.
The UNICEF representative also expressed concern that “Gaza’s children may die if an immediate ceasefire is not established and humanitarian aid is not provided to the enclave,” as they represent “the most vulnerable link in this war.” He emphasized that there are currently “no safe areas in Gaza” and called for an immediate ceasefire.
Earlier on Tuesday, the press office of the Palestinian enclave government issued a statement warning that more than 700,000 people are at risk of dying from starvation due to the Israeli blockade in the Gaza Strip and urged Russia, China, and Turkey to help lift the blockade. The press service of the Gaza authorities also called for the delivery of 10,000 truckloads of aid over the next two years to prevent a humanitarian disaster.
