VIDEO: Illegal Seizure of Building; I Am the President of the Red Cross, They're Not Letting Me In: Yeghiazaryan
The former Secretary General of the Armenian Red Cross Society, Anna Yeghiazaryan, has been denied entry into a building by police officers. "Currently, Arthur Aristakessian is a subordinate of the highest-ranking official (referring to himself) and appointed by other forces, who have illegally seized this building. It turns out that the current head of the executive body, Arthur Aristakessian, who has been appointed illegally, does not allow the organization’s president to enter the building," Yeghiazaryan stated in a conversation with journalists.
She emphasized that Aristakessian has been appointed by individuals who no longer hold office, as their terms had long expired. Lieutenant Colonel L. Ghazaryan, a member of the Police Department for Ensuring Public Order, noted that there is currently a crisis in the management of the Armenian Red Cross Society, and there are certain questions regarding clarification with the presidency. To avoid any undesirable issues, he has made such a decision. "We have the authority to examine what is happening in the organization bilaterally, as we have received applications from both sides. We currently have the registration document from the state registry, according to which Arthur Aristakessian is the head of the executive body," Ghazaryan mentioned.
Near the building, besides Anna Yeghiazaryan, other representatives of the executive body, who elected her to the directorate of the Armenian Red Cross Society, have also gathered. It is noteworthy that for the third day now, the Armenian Red Cross Society has been unable to determine who the new president of the organization is.
On February 15, news circulated in the media that Anna Yeghiazaryan had been elected as the president of the organization at an extraordinary general meeting initiated by one-third of the members of the Armenian Red Cross Society. Subsequently, the organization issued a statement saying that Yeghiazaryan, who was previously the Secretary General, was dismissed during a board meeting on February 8, and the information about her election as president is not true, stating that she is engaging in self-activity.
According to Sputnik Armenia, suspicions had arisen among the presidency of the Armenian Red Cross Society regarding the transparency of Anna Yeghiazaryan's activities. Signals had been received that in the last year, "sloppy tenders were conducted" and purposeless funds were spent, particularly during the assistance period for displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh.
The election for the President of the Armenian Red Cross Society is set to take place on April 8. For more details, see the video.
