Transport Fare Review for Frequent Users and Vulnerable Groups May See Minimal or No Change: Grigoryan

In Yerevan, the transport fare for frequent users of public transport and vulnerable groups will be revised minimally, and it is possible that it might not be revised at all. This announcement was made by Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan during a session of the Yerevan Council, as part of the discussions on transport pricing.

Grigoryan stated, “There is no logic in subsidizing transport for those who use it rarely, such as tourists, especially since a fare change does not impose a dramatic increase for them.” He emphasized that the revenue generated from such transport services should be used to ensure that the transport for primary users remains high-quality and accessible.

Moreover, Grigoryan highlighted that regardless of any fare increases, the transport sector will continuously require subsidies.

It is important to note that the issue of a unified ticketing system was removed from the agenda of today’s Yerevan Council session to allow for more comprehensive discussions before being presented again.

The Yerevan municipality plans to implement a unified ticketing system and review the fare pricing policy in the near future, a topic that has already sparked heated debates.
