Mirzoyan and Borrell Address Border Provocation: Details
On February 13, ahead of the Armenia-EU Partnership Council meeting in Brussels, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan held a private meeting with Josep Borrell, Vice President of the European Commission and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs.
They exchanged views on various issues regarding the Armenia-EU partnership agenda. The discussion included the implementation of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement between Armenia and the EU, democratic developments in Armenia, and joint initiatives aimed at expanding cooperation in new directions along with the existing prospects.
Security issues in the South Caucasus were also discussed. They addressed a recent incident involving Azerbaijani armed forces' provocation and use of force in the Nerkhin Hand settlement of Armenia's Syunik Province earlier that morning. The Armenian Foreign Minister emphasized that this incident once again highlights Azerbaijan's ongoing search for pretexts to escalate border tensions and its continual efforts to undermine the negotiation processes aimed at resuming dialogues involving stakeholders interested in regional stability and security in the South Caucasus.
The importance of restraining further steps that could destabilize the situation in the South Caucasus was underscored.
