NATO Will Defend All Allies in Case of Attack, Says Stoltenberg
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has assured that the alliance will defend all its allies if anyone comes under attack, criticizing statements that cast doubt on this commitment.
His comments have been quoted by several media outlets, including The Guardian. The Secretary General of the alliance pointed out that in the event of aggression, NATO is both ready and able to protect all its members, and any attack on a NATO country will receive a unified and powerful response.
“Any supposition that allies will not defend each other undermines our entire security and increases risks for American and European soldiers. I hope that regardless of who wins the (presidential) elections, the United States will remain a strong and loyal NATO ally,” Stoltenberg said.
It is worth noting that former U.S. President Donald Trump, at a campaign event, recounted how he threatened NATO allies to “encourage Russian” aggression against them if those countries did not increase their investments in collective defense.
European Council President Charles Michel has characterized Trump’s remarks as irresponsible.
