Iran's Foreign Ministry Calls US Strike on Baghdad a Terrorist Act
The US military strike on eastern Baghdad is a terrorist act that poses a threat to international security. This was stated by Nasser Kanaani, the official spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry, whose remarks were quoted on the ministry's official website, according to TASS.
As the diplomat emphasized, Tehran "strongly condemns the terrorist act carried out by the American government on Iraqi territory, which resulted in the deaths of several representatives of the resistance forces," including Abu Bakr al-Saeedi, who is "one of the senior leaders in the fight against terrorism and the Islamic State terrorist group."
Kanaani noted that Washington's actions violate Iraq's sovereignty and territorial integrity and "pose a threat to international security and regional stability." Earlier, on February 7, the US Central Command reported that American forces had "conducted a unilateral strike on Iraq," resulting in the death of the commander of the Shiite group Kata'ib Hezbollah, who "is responsible for planning direct attacks on American forces in the region." According to sources from Al Hadath television, the victim, known as Abu Bakr al-Saeedi, had participated in the attack on a US-controlled military facility in Jordan near the Syrian border, which resulted in the deaths of three American servicemen and injuries to 40 others.
The spokesperson for the commander of Iraq's joint operations, Tahseen al-Khafaji, described the strike on Baghdad as "overt aggression" and a violation of Iraq's sovereignty.
