Allowed Quotas and Timeframe for Scientific Fishing of Carp in Lake Sevan Approved

The Ministry of Environment will permit the commercial fishing of the carp species in Lake Sevan in 2024. By a government decision, the allowable quotas and timeframe for the commercial fishing of carp in Lake Sevan have been established.

1. The maximum allowable catch for the 2024 fishing season has been set at 257 tons.

2. For the year 2024, no quotas have been established for commercial fishing of crayfish and other species in Lake Sevan.

3. Fishing using passive, mechanical or hand-held methods, synthetic nylon or other polyamide fibers with a thread diameter of less than 0.5 mm and a mesh size of less than 80 mm (with a constructive spacing of less than 40 mm) is prohibited.

4. The duration for contracts regarding the use of biological resources in Lake Sevan has been set from March 1, 2024, to September 1, 2024.

The basis for this decision was the studies conducted by the Scientific Center of Zoology and Hydroecology of the National Academy of Sciences, which evaluated fish stocks in Lake Sevan.

Legal entities wishing to engage in commercial fishing of carp in Lake Sevan may submit applications for contracting to the Ministry of Environment until February 22 of this year.
