It’s Fantastic, the Name 'Armenia' is Unnational: Aleksanyan

A number of political and semi-political circles in Armenia are fighting against representing Armenia's history with the name of Armenia's history, and what is happening is a litmus test. This was stated today by Vahe Aleksanyan, a member of the Civil Contract faction, during his speech regarding the renaming of the subject 'Armenian History' in the National Assembly.

“We say that renaming the subject to 'History of Armenia' is unnational. It’s just fantastic, dear people, the name of Armenia, 'Armenia', is unnational. Do you know what this means? It means that what they envision as national is in direct contradiction with the Republic of Armenia, and this is the best indicator of what we have been talking about for a while now. This is the best indicator that these people are fighting against the Republic of Armenia, fighting against its existence as a state. They need Armenians to be a nation, not a people; they need this nation to be part of some union, no matter which one, but it is important that it does not exist as an independent state, because in an independent state they have no role, because in an independent state there is no need to receive funding for the preservation of Armenians,” he said.

Vahe Aleksanyan also expressed the opinion that the fight against renaming the subject has a very deep purpose, which is to oppose the Republic of Armenia. “We know very well where those winds are blowing from, dear friends, but just as those Telegram posts were circulated, they encountered I don’t know what, believe me, this will also clash with that, because the RA exists, the RA is sovereign, and the RA is eternal. And you can transmit this message in all geographical directions: east, west, south, and north,” Aleksanyan stressed.
