Soghomonyan Denies Reports of Refusing to Play Against Russian Clubs Due to Ukrainians

The president of FC Pyunik, Arthur Soghomonyan, has denied reports that the club is refusing to play games against Russian clubs due to Ukrainian issues. This was reported by Armsport.

"The claim that FC Pyunik is refusing to play against Russian clubs because of Ukrainians is gossip. It is not true. On the contrary, we are currently negotiating matches with Russian teams after the training camp. Initially, there were some inconsistencies, but that information is incorrect. I do not know where this has come from. We believe that sports should be separate from politics, and our ties with Russia are the strongest. Our player recently transferred to Sochi, and we are going to Russia for youth tournaments. I am a Russian businessman. Therefore, there are certainly no such issues," Soghomonyan stated in an interview with Championat reporter Vladimir Chetverikov.

"I am not organizing the meetings. Initially, we were not ready at some places, and later some of those Russian clubs were not ready either. It's a standard story. Many teams participate in training camps, and everyone has problems or injuries. These are purely technical issues, definitely not national. We plan to hold our final games against Russian teams. If we can arrange matches with Khimki and Orenburg, that would be wonderful," Soghomonyan added.
