VIDEO: Man Stabs Passersby at Train Station in France, Several Injured

A man armed with a knife attacked people at the Gare de Lyon station in Paris, injuring three individuals. The assailant is reported to be suffering from a mental disorder, and the incident has not yet been classified as a terrorist act, according to BFMTV.

Witnesses report that the attacker, who is from Mali, was quickly apprehended by law enforcement. Paris Prefect Laurent Nunez confirmed to the media that the perpetrator was found with documents verifying his legal status in Italy, including a residence permit that allowed him to enter French territory.

Nunez added that the arrested man is “clearly suffering from a mental disorder,” and medications for mental illness were discovered on him. Additionally, he stated that there is currently no evidence to classify this incident as terrorism, though investigations will further clarify his circumstances in Italy, as well as the content of phone conversations and messages.

According to police sources, the man tried to set his backpack on fire at the train station. Bystanders approached to determine what was happening, at which point he launched the attack. One of the three injured individuals was stabbed in the stomach. The attack has disrupted traffic at the station, leading to the blockage of one entrance and the evacuation of staff.
