Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison: Reason Revealed

A Pakistani court has sentenced former Prime Minister and leader of the opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, along with the party's vice president and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, to 10 years in prison for violating state secrecy laws. This was reported by Geo TV and cited by TASS.

The verdict was announced by a special court judge at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, in the presence of Khan and Qureshi.

The proceedings against Khan began after he publicly disclosed on March 27, 2022, that he had received a classified cable from Pakistan’s ambassador in Washington, which, according to the politician, indicated that U.S. representatives had advised the head of the diplomatic mission to push for the removal of the Prime Minister due to his pro-Russian stance on the Ukraine issue, as highlighted during his visit to Moscow in February 2022.

Khan led the Pakistani government from 2018 to 2022.
