Don't Appear Before My Eyes: Marukyan Responds to Ukrainian MP's Speech

The Armenian Ambassador-at-Large Edmon Marukyan has criticized the pro-Azerbaijani speech of Ukrainian Rada MP Oleksiy Honcharenko at the PACE, accusing him of double standards.

Marukyan reminded that in 2021, when he had spoken as a member of the PACE delegation about Azerbaijan's disgraceful 'strategist park,' where the Azerbaijani regime showcased mannequins of Armenian prisoners of war, he had also presented photographs. The Ukrainian MP complained to the session president that he was not allowed to demonstrate banners like Marukyan did.

'It is very interesting that this Ukrainian MP demands justice from the world for Ukraine while he does not want to see the same justice for the thousands of residents of Nagorno-Karabakh subjected to ethnic cleansing, or for the Armenian prisoners of war illegally held in Azerbaijan. How can you not be ashamed, Honcharenko? When I come to Strasbourg, don't appear before my eyes,' Marukyan wrote.

It is worth noting that on January 25, Ukrainian Rada MP Oleksiy Honcharenko had delivered a pro-Azerbaijani speech at PACE. He stated that Azerbaijan has been a member of PACE since 2001, and it is not that the situation in Azerbaijan has deteriorated, but rather that the country is merely restoring its territorial integrity and trying to conclude a peace treaty with Armenia.

'I want to address the Azerbaijanis: you are part of the free world, and we want to see you here... Long live Azerbaijan, long live Europe. I believe that we will overcome this, and we look forward to the arrival of the Azerbaijani delegation here,' Honcharenko declared.
