Baku Presents Harichavank as a Monastery Belonging to Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan is concretely deepening its program of annexation of Armenia. Arman Tatoyan, the former Human Rights Defender of Armenia, made a post on his Facebook page regarding this matter.
“Yesterday, the government-controlled Baku TV showcased the ancient Armenian Harichavank monastery, located in the Shirak region of Armenia, as a 5th-century Turkish-Christian monastery belonging to Azerbaijan. Can you imagine the extent to which the policy of annexation towards Armenia has deepened? Not only did a state called 'Azerbaijan' exist in the 5th century, but they also had Christian monasteries and churches,” he wrote.
“The video fabricates an entire false narrative claiming that the community of Artik in Armenia is supposedly part of so-called ‘Western Azerbaijan’. The video is based on false narratives portraying Armenians as ‘murderous’ and asserting that ‘Western Azerbaijanis should settle in Armenia’, with the real aim being the appropriation of the millennia-old history of Armenians and the annexation of Armenia. It demonstrates not only the anti-Armenian but also the anti-Christian policies of the Azerbaijani authorities.”
“In such circumstances, to believe that the Azerbaijani government has intentions to live peacefully with Armenia is simply the result of not understanding the situation or pursuing specific political objectives,” he concluded.
