Why the Armenia-Turkey Border Remains Closed: Mirzoyan Clarifies
The "Margarita" checkpoint at the Armenia-Turkey border has not yet been opened to citizens of third countries as well as citizens holding diplomatic passports from Armenia and Turkey, because the Armenian side is awaiting actions from the Turkish side.
"The only component that is missing for that border to be opened and operational is the Turkish side's decision to commence the opening," said Mirzoyan in response to questions from Sputnik Armenia related to the Margaritan checkpoint and the Ani Bridge.
The Armenian Foreign Minister noted that the Armenian side has reaffirmed its readiness for the prompt opening of the border both politically and in terms of infrastructure.
He reminded that infrastructure studies have been conducted from both sides concerning checkpoints, roads, and bridges.
Regarding the restoration of the Ani Bridge, Mirzoyan mentioned that there has been progress in this direction. The Turkish side recently presented its vision, and the Armenian side will respond accordingly, allowing the process to continue.
