Drug Trafficking Case Revealed, Arrests Made

The investigative body of the Republic of Armenia's Vayots Dzor region, in collaboration with the police department of the same region, has uncovered a criminal group engaged in the illegal trafficking of significant quantities of drugs. This announcement comes from the RA Investigative Committee.

On January 18, 2024, operational information was received by the police indicating that four individuals were involved in the illegal drug trade after acquiring various types of drugs in Goris, Syunik province, with the intent to sell them in Yerevan. On the same day, based on the operational information received, these individuals were arrested and taken to the police station in Yeghagnadzor.

During a personal search, one of them was found with a syringe containing 0.3 milligrams of a red solution, another had a total of 3.44 grams of a glass vial with a burned exterior, a third carried a folding knife with a 9 cm blade and a hidden lock, while the fourth had a brown substance with a sharp odor, wrapped in foil and adhesive tape, resembling heroin.

Preliminary data indicates that the last individual, a 35-year-old resident of Yerevan, had coordinated with the three others to acquire and transport a significant quantity of drugs to Yerevan. On January 17, 2024, they traveled by car from Yeghagnadzor in Vayots Dzor to Syunik province, where they unlawfully obtained a total of 799.39 grams of what is preliminarily identified as heroin, which was discovered during a personal search of the Yerevan resident.

Additionally, on January 18, 2024, at 2:00 AM, while in custody, this individual attempted to escape from the window of a restroom on the second floor of the Yeghagnadzor police station. However, he was located and taken back to the police department by 2:04 AM.

Following these events, the RA Investigative Committee's Vayots Dzor regional investigative office has initiated criminal proceedings, and necessary investigative and evidentiary actions have been undertaken. This includes an examination of the vehicle, resulting in the discovery of paper packages weighing 24.80 grams and 9.95 grams, respectively, which preliminarily resemble substances derived from cannabis.
