Turkish Drone Destroys French Lafarge Cement Plant in Syria
A Turkish drone has destroyed the French Lafarge cement plant in northern Syria. This was reported by the Telegram channel 'Военный обозреватель', which published footage of the strike on the facility.
Previously, Lafarge SA had acknowledged paying money to the terrorist organization 'Islamic State' and other armed groups to keep its cement production operations in Syria running, resulting in a fine of $778 million.
The U.S. Department of Justice stated that Lafarge (which has been part of the Holcim group since 2015) paid around $17 million to terrorists from August 2013 to October 2014 to avoid attacks on its plant in northern Syria.
'Lafarge has admitted guilt and taken responsibility for this horrific crime,' stated Breon Peace, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.
