The Entire Middle East Could Face Catastrophe: Nebenzya
The Russian Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, has urged the West to refrain from escalating tensions in the Middle East, warning that the entire region could face catastrophe as a result. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
"A critical situation has developed in the Middle East. The issue is not even that representatives of the West are undermining the results of many years of efforts to achieve peace in Yemen through their actions, but rather a much broader problem," Nebenzya stated at a UN Security Council meeting.
According to him, reckless and short-sighted actions are destabilizing the security situation and disrupting the outlining regulations of the regional situation.
"If escalation continues, the entire Middle East could be facing a disaster, the likes of which previous events will seem like 'flowers'. The loss of human lives and ruined destinies will be countless," said the Russian diplomat.
Nebenzya noted that the entire responsibility for this will fall on the United States and its supporters, who, in pursuit of their selfish geopolitical interests, not only persistently hinder the international community's calls for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip but have also once again become aggressors themselves.
It is noteworthy that on January 12, Russia requested an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council concerning the attacks by the US and its partners towards Yemen.
