All morning flights at the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Airport in Russia have been delayed on Friday due to adverse weather conditions, according to reports from the airport to TASS.
"Delays are due to weather conditions," said a source from the agency. It has been reported that no planes were able to depart from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk this morning. Nine flights in eight directions have been delayed, with their departure times changing every half hour.
In addition, five flights in five directions have been delayed upon arrival. The airport reports that a cyclone is currently affecting the capital of the island.
The Novosibirsk - Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk flight was redirected to an alternative airport in Khabarovsk. Previously, emergency services had announced a warning for January 12 for eight districts in southern Sakhalin. Meteorologists predict blizzards, heavy snowfall, strong winds, and poor visibility.
Students in several regions of Sakhalin have switched to remote learning, and traffic has been restricted on several roads. Currently, it is snowing in Sakhalin, with strong winds and blizzard conditions. The air temperature in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk this morning is minus 10 degrees.
