VIDEO: What Did Unemployed Teachers Discuss with the Minister of Education?
The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Zhanna Andreasian, promised to support teachers with intermediate vocational education in obtaining higher education or finding employment elsewhere if desired. This was stated by teachers who met with the minister during a conversation with reporters.
“First, we asked her to allow us to work until the end of the school year. She said, 'I cannot promise, but I will try to resolve this issue legally.’ Regarding obtaining higher education, the minister stated that the state would assist us with the payment,” one of the teachers said.
The minister also suggested that teachers who have not passed the minimum threshold for certification but are still students (attending any university) could temporarily take on other jobs. “She said we will send a circular; we will see in libraries, laboratories, where there are vacancies that do not require higher education, and we will direct you to work there. And once you obtain your higher education, you can retake the certification and participate in the teachers' competitions,” the teachers added.
According to the teachers, they are generally satisfied with the meeting and will wait for a month; if the issue is not resolved, they will come to the ministry again.
It should be noted that teachers with intermediate vocational education who have not passed the mandatory certification threshold and who were dismissed from their jobs in December 2023 have been protesting in front of the Ministry of Education since this morning. To listen to their demands, three of them were received by Minister Zhanna Andreasian.
