Lukashenko Prohibits Prosecution of Himself and Family Members
The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has signed constitutional amendments regulating the rights of former presidents and their families. According to the changes, former presidents and their families will retain lifelong immunity, access to bodyguards, and the right to use state-owned real estate.
Moreover, a former president and their family members will not be held accountable for any crimes committed while in power. Assets, properties, and correspondence will also remain immune from scrutiny.
The amendments also state that in the event of the former leader's death, his funeral will be paid for by the state budget. After leaving office, the former president will become a delegate of the All-Belarusian People's Assembly and a lifelong member of the Republic Council.
