Xiaomi Unveils Its First Car

The smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has unveiled its first car, named SU7 (Speed Ultra). The project has seen investments totaling $10 billion, and according to Bloomberg, the vehicle will be produced at the automotive giant BAIC's factory.

The Xiaomi SU7 is an electric sedan with a length of 4.9 meters, surpassing the dimensions of, for example, the Hyundai Sonata. The car features a sculpted hood, LED optics, a panoramic roof, active anti-roll bars, and integrated lighting units.

The sedan is also equipped with built-in transponders for toll payments, a special camera that recognizes the driver, and a lidar located behind the windshield. The SU7's onboard computer operates on the HyperOS operating system.

Xiaomi has positioned the SU7 as a competitor to the Tesla Model S and the Porsche Taycan Turbo. The company believes that their vehicle is comparable in technology to the American model, while it can measure its strength in dynamic performance against the German car.

As reported by CarNewsChina, the new product will be available in two versions. Customers will be offered a rear-wheel-drive sedan with an electric powertrain producing 300 horsepower. A full-wheel-drive variant will also be available, with a power output of 673 horsepower. The maximum speeds of the vehicles are 210 km/h and 265 km/h, respectively.

The electric motors for the cars are supplied by United Automotive Electronics, a Shanghai company. The new product's power reserves, depending on the variant, range from 668 to 800 km.

Sales of the new product in China are expected to begin in early 2024. Prices for the models have not yet been disclosed. For example, the minimum price for the Model S in China is 698,900 yuan (8.9 million rubles), while the Taycan starts at 898,000 yuan (11.4 million rubles). According to the Chinese publication CarNewsChina, the prices for the Xiaomi SU7 are expected to be significantly lower, estimated to range between 190,000 and 300,000 yuan (2.4 to 3.8 million rubles).
