Yerevan No Longer Has Time for Planting Trees with Finger Thickness: Begoyan

In order to improve the ecological situation in Yerevan, mature trees have been imported. This was announced by Armen Begoyan, the director of the "Greening and Environmental Protection" SNCO, during a press briefing summarizing the work carried out in 2023, as reported by Sputnik Armenia.

Begoyan emphasized that as part of the tree replacement program, old trees have been replaced with mature, functional, and valuable tree species. "The ecological condition of Yerevan is poor, there is a high percentage of dust, and various types of bacteria are present. This situation did not allow us to plant trees with finger thickness, as they would only be able to perform their functions after a certain period. For this reason, we have mainly imported 10-year-old mature trees from Italy and the Netherlands. Yerevan no longer has time to plant trees whose functionality will only be felt after 10 years," noted Begoyan.

Continuing to present the accomplished works, he emphasized that in 2023, an irrigation system covering approximately 7000 linear meters was installed across 15 hectares of the "Yerablur" military pantheon. A new park named "Forest of Glory" has been established on unproductive lands, where around 5000 trees and shrubs have been planted. Begoyan highlighted that this is the largest ecological effort undertaken in Yerevan in 2023.

It should be noted that the next major project, according to the SNCO director, is replacing linden trees with yews and pines on Sayat-Nova Avenue in the Kentron administrative district, as well as on Moscow and Ulnetsi streets, and on Artem Mikoyan Street in Nor Nork.
